Frankie mentioned they're already working on the next edition that will fix some typos/inconsistencies, so I'm glad I didn't pick it up right off the bat. That and it was much bigger than I thought it would be. And with more pictures and in-game model stuff. I only flipped through it briefly while in the university bookstore.
Heh heh, yeah, the height's been tweaked since Halo 3. You can kind of marry the two extremes by considering one as being a fully erect (lolol) height, length of neck/knees included, and the other as a more standard "hunchy, battle-ready" stance that humans would be more familiar with.
But meh. Truth is it was all re-tweaked to play better with multiplayer. Harrumph.
(The Halo 1 and 2 Elite designs >>>>>> H3's design, IMHO. I can't stand how burly and slow they look now. Give me back my sleek predators.)
Although shrinking every other Elite makes Xytan's height all the more impressive.
Gods dammit, Frankie. I JUST got it. I mean, really. He'd better clarify heights. And chicks. Sangheili chicks have to have SOMETHING to do in their society other than be baby factories.

The H2's are my favorite. They were so sinewy but detailed. They didn't have to have bulky armor or over emphasized musculature because their strength was compacted in their sinewy frames -- all lean muscle, which made them look faster on their feet and better at evasive meanuevering. When I look at the H3 models, though, with the hunchy frames and unnecessary bulky armor bits... meh. I don't get the same feeling. They may look more "intimidating," but they don't look any "deadlier". Not to me. They kinda lumber around like Brutes. But it's been a long time since I've played H3, so I could be dramatizing things. :3
While the H2 design was more hunched than the H1 version it did have a fully erect walking animation that was quite handsome. I first saw it when I forced Rtas to come with me in the last level (by meleeing him around a lot. What a trooper!) Left him behind a door and came back to find him pacing circles.
SEE? YOUR MULTIPLAYER SHENANIGANS WILL NEVER TAKE PROPER-POSTURE!ELITES AWAY FROM ME, BUNGIE.
And ugh, HEIGHTS. Wait, so it's 7'4 now? H3 had it as 7'2. Gosh darnit. I wonder if I need to go back and edit my character guide now... *mumble* Hm. Maybe on just a few characters. But I hate bumping Tulkas' height up because I have him down as 8'2 (based on the 7'2 standard,) which is already pushing it, because the Halo Wars arbiter is recorded as being 8'1, and he was considered to be unusually large. Tulkas is also unusually large so I'd like to keep them on the same page. Making him any bigger just pushes him further into a caricature, though his size is due to a genetic defect. (But don't tell him that I called it a defect. I value my life.)
*snort* I don't think Bungie/MS/Whoever knows what to do with females of any species, hehe. Halo's never had the most stunningly faceted characters, but I half expect that any Sangheili/Unggoy/Whatever females we'd see would be super secret hard-ass enigmatic ONI operatives like every other lady character they've introduced. Maybe give them man-chins and mouths big enough to encompass Cairo Station if you wanna go for some Dare flavor. It's too bad Miranda had the personality of a brick and some of the worst lines in the games, because she's one of the few who escaped the cliche. Le sigh.
But maybe I'm being overdramatic again. One or two of the Spartans weren't bad (I'd have to reread the books to figure out which ones, cause, you know. LOL SPARTANS, WHO ARE THEY?). Cal was alright for someone smooshed into a 20-minute episode where she only has two or three lines (the long flowing locks of hair were annoying, but that's artistic license for ya.) And I adore Sif (SIF x MACK RAMPANT A.I. LURVE FOREVAH!). I really liked Chur'R Yar as well. As the first alien!lady, I welcomed her presence. Maybe not the most likeable gal around but her last thoughts about a warm nest made me sad to see her go. A shame she was killed off so early.
But the alien notations are just terrible. "Lol we know females exist but none have ever been seen lololol." Eh, I think this will be another case of explaining away the lack of female models/presence by assigning them "special culture roles." Similar to how krogan and salarian females are explained away in Mass Effect. They're not BAD explanations, and they make sense, but it doesn't change the fact that the game is one big sausagefest and eventually Joe is gonna wonder where the other alien chicks are and so one needs to have a "well they're here doing this and this" card to pull out.
Though there's no real excuse for the lack of turian ladies. They'd be hawt. Even looking the same, they'd still be hawt. It'd be nice to have a species where gender is difficult to tell apart (by the human eye.) Kig-Yar kinda have that going on, and they seem pretty cool about gender equality, which is why they're one of my favorite species. Surprisingly.
Wow. This thought train makes no sense. Tl;dr: part of me is worried they're going to pull some "duhhr lady leets make deh babies only it is all so cultural" thing with the Sangheili to explain away their vacancy, and if it's handled lamely then I'm going to headdesk. And seriously, what's up with Brute chicks? So, what... they're not allowed to fight? Lolwuht? I'm dying to learn about them. And Unggoy femmes. They don't have to be super special, but it'd be nice to see their existence acknowledged.
When I made my characters, Halopedia had 8' 6" as their height, which is what I went from. It annoyed the hell out of me when I had to go back and alter the heights (some characters did wind up as 7' 7" lul). I'm not messing with them for two inches. I decided not to mess with the height of my Spartan, Jared, because it fit okay, and Zuro is supposed to be the Sangheili version of Mr. Universe (9' tall, tons of muscle that he can actually use). Everyone else had to shrink.
I can't accept Babysitter as canon. Never. It's too much bullshit in one place.
Honestly, I think female Sangheili fill the roles men don't do (men=soldiers, women=everything else), and would be held to a different standard than a male. Where a man would be rewarded for slaying hundreds of armed enemies (slaughtering unarmed enemies doesn't count), a female might be rewarded for, say, owning their own restaurant and having it do well. They're not expected to fight (though I think every Sangheili is trained to fight to some degree), and there's too many things left open for men to do everything. It's like the days when women had no rights, they still did SOMETHING all day other than gossip.

And if they mess with Sangheili heights again I will murder them. Wearing an 8' 6" Sangheili costume.
